Program
Nursing Homes & Memory Care
Shorter, gentler programs designed for nursing homes and memory-care communities, where music can reach where words sometimes cannot.
What it looks like
A small ensemble — usually a string trio, solo pianist, or vocalist with accompaniment — performs a quieter, shorter program (about 20–30 minutes) suited to a nursing-home or memory-care setting. We perform from a fixed location so residents in wheelchairs or with limited mobility can attend without moving.
Why music in memory care
Decades of research and clinical experience show that music — especially music familiar from a person’s youth — can reach memory-care residents when conventional conversation cannot. We approach these performances with humility and care, working closely with staff to choose repertoire that matches the community.
What we play
- Hymns and spirituals familiar to the residents’ generations
- American Songbook standards
- Classical pieces with strong, recognizable melodies
- Personal requests, when the staff can share them ahead of time
What we ask of host staff
- A brief conversation with the activity director about residents’ backgrounds and any specific musical memories worth honoring
- A quiet space (community room, dining room, or hallway) and chairs already set up
- Staff present during the performance to support residents
